I never imagined that the first product I would produce would be chocolate for him.

Miyake Tenma is an eccentric man who travels around in a flashy bath truck called a "mobile public bath." I first met him in the summer three years ago, in a hot spring town along the river called Amagase in Oita Prefecture.

I was drawn to him not only for his unique activities, but also for the philosophy at the core of them, his weak and sensitive inner self which contrasts with his appearance, and the core strength he continues to uphold no matter how many people laugh at him.

For some reason, I ended up meeting him many times all over Japan, and we talked about our dreams, even though we both had no way of earning a living. He is leaving for Canada this year, and next year he will be in New York, where he will take on a big challenge that will put his life on the line.

Even though they don't have any money, I think they will continue to get their message across, involving many people, over days and months.

Since there is no other way, we thought it would be a surprise project to help out a little. 26% of the sales will go to supporting his activities.

The chocolate maker is Chocobanashi from Nara Prefecture. After an event called "Kabumono Fest," he let me stay with him at his house for over a week, cooked for me, and even went to a mobile public bath together.

One of the ingredients will be "Happy Salt" made by Neji, a salt craftsman from Miyazaki Prefecture. It is the best natural salt made by boiling seawater from Koshima Island over a firewood fire made from scraps from an abandoned house, taking an incredible amount of time and effort. Neji is also a friend of Tenshin's who joined the mobile bathhouse.

The other will use cacao grown by Taiju, a Japanese man who runs a cacao farm in the Philippines. Taiju's love of chocolate has led him to move to the Philippines, which is similar to Tenma's. He let me and Tenma stay at his house, and now he's harvesting cacao wearing a happi coat that Tenma made for him.
